You then brush carpenters’ glue into the mortice and onto the back of the parts you have made and, using a block of wood and a hammer, tap the new pieces into the old mortice.
When the glue has thoroughly dried, using a sharp low-angle block plane and or a sanding block you level the new inserted filler piece so that it is perfectly flush with the door casing. That’s it. You may no more meet the stain again.
